Ensuring that everything an HR team does is clearly aligned with enterprise goals is easy to say but difficult to achieve. It means that everyone in the HR team needs to be able to articulate not just the what and why about HR policy and initiatives, but do so in the context of current business imperatives. Using HFL’s Business Alignment Model we assist HR teams to gaining Line-of-Sight alignment.
Ensuring clarity about the skills, knowledge and aptitude required to successfully execute specific leadership roles, both now and in the future, is a key factor for successfully building leadership capability. Using a proven methodology, our consultants produce detailed and accurate descriptions that form the foundations of leadership development initiatives that follow.
We assist enterprises in developing competency frameworks for specific functions across the enterprise, specialising in leadership. If clients are looking for a semi-customised solution, we use the HFL Leadership Competency Framework as a starting point.
We design and execute completely customised online climate surveys for 10 people or 10,000 people.
Leadership learning frameworks
We design customised leadership curriculums and academy-style programs for several multinational organisations. These curriculums are always blended learning solutions, combining traditional workshop activities along with significant project work, on-the-job learning, coaching, mentoring and assessment / self awareness activities.
Assess existing performance, skills, and potential in leader groups
We provide a range of world-class tools to enable enterprises to illuminate existing skills, and provide a picture of the future potential of the leadership group (existing or emerging). These assessment tools are also designed to help participants understand their current strengths and development areas, and are nearly always delivered with individual feedback to maximise participant reflection and insight.
Assessment and development centres
We design and execute half-, one- and two-day assessment and development centres.
An assessment centre is a process, not a place. A selected group of participants take part in multiple activities designed to generate evidence of the competencies that are strongly associated with success in the target job or job level. These activities include simulation exercises, which usually reflect the three working scenarios that are familiar to most of us:
• Working alone;
• Working one-on-one; and
• Working in groups.
Depending on the need, the assessment centre might also incorporate other activities such as a competency-based interview or psychometric tests.
Participants are observed by trained assessors, who record what is said and done and then classify this behavioural evidence against pre-determined performance scales which maintain the accuracy, consistency and fairness of the process. This multiple assessment process has been proven to be very objective and reliable. We often stage stretch assessment centres as a pre-curser to emerging leader programs.
Assessment centres can be used as development or recruitment tools. We have several clients who use our assessment centres for both purposes.
Utilising one of the most advanced web-based assessment technologies available globally, we offer a suite of 28 online psychometric instruments for recruitment, development and high potential assessments. Given the broad range of assessments, it is possible to customise a battery of assessments to deliver precise outcomes (for example, the propensity of an individual to take safety very seriously).
The benefit of using online tools is speed and reduction in cost.
Some of our customers use this tool internally, licensed from HFL with internal resources accredited by HFL. Others use HFL as a bureau service.
These tools are typically used either for recruitment purposes, or as part of a broader assessment piece of a leadership development program.
High performance profiles
Using specialised data analysis techniques, we can develop profiles of the key characteristics of high performers in a particular role. These high performance profiles isolate the key success factors common to high performing individuals currently in the role (using markers such as personality, reasoning, and values traits).
These profiles can then be used to recruit or promote the individuals with the highest likelihood of being high performers in the same role. Our clients also use the profiles to design development plans for lower performers.
Customised online 360-degree assessments
We can design and host a completely tailored online 360-degree tool enabling assessment of enterprise specific competencies and values. 180-degree assessments can also be executed.
These assessments provide tremendous insight both for the enterprise and individual participant, and also have the advantage of involving many people at differing levels in the enterprise, emphasising the enterprise’s commitment to building leadership capability to many who are not directly involved in the process.
Deliver customised programs that build effective leadership bench strength throughout the enterprise
We boast the capability to deliver leadership development initiatives or various types across the Asia-Pacific region, utilising both our own expert in-house team, and a regionally based group of pre-accredited associates. In recent times, we have delivered programs from Dubai to Tokyo, and New Delhi to Melbourne.
Leadership development programs
We design and deliver leadership development programs that are completely bespoke (customised for an individual client), through to semi-customised pre-development programs which we have developed, such as the “Engage” program designed to increase the ability of leaders to engage and retain key talent.
Accelerated leadership programs & Emerging leader programs
HFL has designed dozens of emerging and future leader acceleration programs. Designed over a two to three year period and run for cross cultural leaders across Asia-Pacific, our programs are specifically designed to fast track the development of leadership competency and confidence in participants by exposing them to a vast array of leadership challenges and experiences. These programs involve a blend of external and internal resources and typically include; thorough assessment of leadership potential, assignment to internal mentors and highly experienced external coaches, presentations from global subject, matter experts, delivery of specific work projects, job rotations, shadow board activities and group workshops.
Executive leadership coaching
Designed by our team of organisational psychologists, our programs ensure ongoing behaviour change in the workplace. Delivered one-on-one, and in conjunction with an internal mentor, the program has proven to be a time and cost effective methodology for cementing leadership skills and capabilities development in individuals.
